Holy Week
In trying to safeguard the body of Jesus, the priests show a customary human trait: the desire for security. Years ago, the desire to be safe and secure from nuclear war motivated a couple to find a place where they would be least affected by an atomic bomb exchange. They eventually found their new home. On Christmas of that year, they sent their pastor a card from the Falkland Islands. Within the year their paradise was devastated by a war between Great Britain and Argentina.
Our couple soon found out there is no security from man's anger to his fellow man. Similarly, the priests would soon find out there is no security in trying to keep Jesus in the tomb. Christians know that true security only comes in trusting our uncustomary Savior and the empty tomb. His death and resurrection makes us secure of a final victory over Satan's temptations, the grave's curse, and the law's condemnation. This Holy Week as we see the tomb, which is temporarily sealed and guarded, we give thanks for the all-powerful plans of God which grant the ultimate security.
Prayerful Practice: Dear Lord Jesus, thank You for making me secure. Amen.
A Contemporary Custom: Common sense tells us that some security is important. Check the locks on the doors and windows of your house. If they need replacing, do so. |
